Moving from Louisiana to Rockwall in 2014 was a significant change in life, and she joined the Rockwall Art League (RAL) at the 2014 Annual Fine Art Show. She has served on the Board since 2015 in the following capacities: Co-Chair of the 2015 Annual Fine Art Show; as Board Secretary in 2016 and 2017; as President in 2018 and 2019; and currently as Past President. She has also served on various Standing Committees during those years. One of her favorite things about RAL is Studio Days where a small group of members meet to paint once a month. RAL and Studio Days was a great way to meet awesome people with similar interests.
She was previously a member of the Lacombe Art Guild in Louisiana, and exhibited in their spring and fall art shows. Her art has been exhibited in galleries in the New Orleans French Quarter and Riverwalk. During her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist, she had the opportunity to be involved with many art teachers who always inspired her. She found that using art in treatment sessions was useful as reinforcement and to facilitate communication with both children and adults. For one client, art was determined to be his best method for communicating his wants and needs.
Karen has always found art inspirational and has always filled her home with art. She has taken many classes and workshops over the years and is always eager to learn something new. She considers herself an experimental artist and has tried many mediums over the years including batik, jewelry making, photography, and acrylic and mixed media art. Her major interest is anything with texture and color with a special love for abstracts and expressionistic painting. Her hope is that her art inspires someone else to have fun, love art, and meet some great RAL member artists.
