Originally from England, Hazel Spire came to the US after meeting her GI husband in Iran. She was an elementary school teacher for 20+ years, but recently retired to paint and write, with 12 books published so far. A former member of Bartlesville Art Society (OK) and Farmers Branch-Carrollton Art Association, Hazel joined Rockwall Art League in 2022.
“I’ve been blessed with opportunities to live in many places. I like the challenge of pinning impressions to paper with images or words—shadows across a wall, reflections in water, the light on ancient stone, cloud formations, patchwork landscapes—both for myself and to share. The wonders of God’s created world are new every morning! My favorite movement in art history is Post-Impressionism. It’s a joy to find kindred spirits—learning new techniques from each other and hanging our work in shows. In the past, I’ve worked with pastels, acrylics, and stained glass. Right now I do mostly collage with painted papers, inspired by Eric Carle. I can be a kid again.”
Other interests include reading, knitting, swimming, and family time.
